Make Your Own DIY Scandinavian Wreath

So, if you haven’t noticed yet, Scandinavian Wreaths are one of my go-to favorite things to decorate with. After living in Germany, I fell in love with the look of these Scandinavian styled wreaths. They are so simple, yet at the same time so beautiful and add so much to a space. I just can’t get enough of them. Not only do I love using them for all my decorative needs, I really love making them as well. I recently used one in our $50 Mantle Makeover post. I have another one coming in my next house makeover and I just finished one off this weekend for a Master-bedroom Makeover. These are a great craft all year long, not just for Christmas!

You can have one too…so simple to make all yourself!!

DIY Scandinavian Wreath Tutorial

Supplies:

  • Embroidery hoop or something similar
  • Greenery Stems
  • Fake Flowers, Pine Cones, Season decor (optional)
  • Floral Wire &/or Floral Tape
  • Ribbon or string to hang wreath
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Floral Clippers

This tutorial just like these wreaths, is super simple!!!

  1. I start by always laying out my design first before anything else! This sounds simple, but it’s so important before getting started. It’s a good idea to have an idea where you want your design direction to go, this doesn’t mean it has to stay the same. Lay out everything…I have no shame and will do this in the store as well if needed. 😉 I also take pictures of everything laid out to see it from a different perspective and also so I don’t forget…lets be serious I forget everything once I get started.
  2. Next pick out greenery and flowers. I try to coordinate two to three different stems of greenery and then cut them to different lengths. This way you can see each kind of greenery stem, giving it texture by layering them. Use floral wire and start in the middle of the hoop, layering each stem at a time. Wrap the wire around the bottom of each stem.
  3. Once, the stems are all in place in the middle of the hoop, work your way up the hoop adding small amounts of floral wire around the greenery stem. Keep the wire very tight around the hoop and try to place it in a location that will be covered by a leaf or floral.
  4. After all of your long stems are added, normally I add a larger focal point flower, pinecones, ornaments something that draws your attention in. I hot glue gun this piece in, making sure to cover them middle stems that are wrapped in the floral wire.
  5. Once my large focal piece is in, start adding fillers of smaller stem items. These pieces are normally hot glued in as well.
  6. Next flip the wreath over and start working from the back. Cover all the wire with leaves using hot glue. Making sure no wires are showing on the main side of the wreath

Finish off the wreath with either ribbon, string or fishing wire depending on how and where you want to hang it.
