Week 2 Of the Jeffrey Court All Star Challenge

Demo Day ~ Okay…Demo WEEK!

Okay friends…it’s week 2 of the Jeffrey Court All Star Challenge. Just like the last time I did a big renovation challenge, things seem to take much longer than expected and of course, to keep it interesting nothing seems to go according to the plan.

For this space, I originally was hoping to keep my shower tub to save money, time and of course my poor body…LOL! The more I looked at the empty space with that giant shower/tub wall, it was all I could see in the bathroom. It felt like a complete waste…I have the absolute, most beautiful tile from Jeffrey Court. I can see it so clearly in my head, the shower walls as an accent wall of tile, instead of that plastic shower wall. So…out comes everything this week.

Here’s where we are at this point. This is the before pic, because in the mix of renovations it’s hard to remember all the work you have gotten done, especially if you still have so far to go!!

First up in demo…Let’s remove this vanity and toilet.

I’m getting pretty good at removing toilets and vanities, so this went pretty quickly.

Floors were the next to go…Yikes! I took out the sub flooring out as well. I am going to add cement boards on the floors so that they will be water proof under the tile.

If you don’t know me yet, I am always down for taking down walls…Lol! To remove a shower inlay, they suggest you remove about 6-8 inches of the drywall above the shower. I just took out all the drywall, because I’m going to add cement boards on the walls as well and will be tiling all the way to the ceiling. So, bye walls! 😉

Okay… I took this tub out in pieces. I used my reciprocating saw and cut at the corners of both sides and pulled down until it broke. Anyone see what the back of the shower leads to? Those are my medicine cabinets I installed for my last renovation project. Ha…it would have been easier to just do them both at the same time. Who would have thought?

I needed a special drain wrench to completely move the tub, so in the meantime, I took down the drywall on the vanity wall. This will also be covered with cement boards and completely tiled as an accent wall. I’m debating on building a niche in the back wall for the shower. I think it’s probably going to be a yes since that is one of my favorite things in my last shower build. I will also be converting the vanity drain into two faucet spouts.

Boom…tub out and first cement board up and rocking. Let’s get this bathroom rebuilt! Oh and in record time because we don’t have much time left for this renovation competition!

We are heading into week 3 with an empty space. Yep… sounds about right!! So, here’s what you can expect next. I’m going to build back up the walls and floors and then we are going to get some tile into this space.

Be sure to check out the other great designers participating in the Jeffrey Court All Star Challenge and remember voting starts this week, so be sure to vote for your favorite designer!!

Wowser, lot of work! If it were my redo I would chalk the back wall where the other cabinets are so I wouldn’t whack them….I also insulate behind ALL walls and around plumbing. I don’t want to hear anybody else taking a shower and/or talking and, I like a nice warm bathroom in the winter and cool in the summer.
