Impact of Interior Doors

This post is in partnership with The Home Depot, a brand & company I love. All opinions here are my own. Thank you for supporting the brands that help support this blog.

Okay…have you been following along with my first-floor transformation? Seriously, almost every inch of this house has been remodeled in some way. All new floors are installed, walls have been painted, trim completely redone and so much more. Are you ready to see what is going to finish off this space? Well, get ready, because now I am installing all new interior doors with The Home Depot and the impact they make is absolutely incredible!

I think it is important to first remember where we…aka, I…started a few months ago. I’m pretty exhausted and sometimes forget ALL the work that has really gone into this home lately.

Replacing the interior doors was one of my dreams when we first moved in to this house, so I am excited to get to this project. The Home Depot has a huge selection to choose from and I honestly think choosing a door was the hardest part. Really honing in on the style and exact doors I wanted to go with was tough but, in the end, I chose JELD-WED Birkdale Primed Smooth Hollow Core Molded Composite Prehung Interior Doors.

So, let’s talk ordering new interior doors. It felt very overwhelming at first, but it’s actually quite simple and fun.

First off, I went into The Home Depot and sat down with a Door Associate and they went over all of the information I needed to get started to order all of my Prehung Interior Doors.

1. Door Type:

You could order either Prehung, Slab, Bi-Fold or Barn Door. First up – decide which door type you are interested in.

Prehung:

A complete door unit including a frame and color coordinated sill/hinges, ready to install.

Slab:

A door only, for installation into an existing frame.

Bi-Fold:

A great option for closets, bifold doors fold in or out to open up space.

Barn:

Fun and functional, a sliding barn door can elevate the look of any room.

2. Style:

This was by far my favorite part. The Home Depot had tons of styles in store to look at. They also had a catalog that I could look over and see every style possible to order. Seriously, every door you can imagine was in there. I wanted to go with a more modern look, so I went with their Distinctive DesignsFlat Panel Smooth in Birkdale, which is a three panel door. The Conmore line with the 5 panels is another great option for a modern look.

3. Door Measurements:

Make sure to measure each one of the doors (WxH) you are replacing. I was so shocked that I did not notice that all my doors were not the same size. When ordering just a door slab you want to measure the height and width of each of your doors. For ordering pre-hung doors, you want to measure after the door trim is all removed from the top of the header to the bottom of the flooring. You have some wiggle room on this…my bottom doors were too large by 1/2″, so I ended up removing the bottom of the door casing.

4. Core Type:

Solid Core: Doors with a solid core withstand everyday use and are up to 50% quieter than standard hollow core doors. They are recommended for bedroom, bathroom, and laundry room openings.

Hollow Core ~Doors with a hollow core are more cost-friendly and light-weight than solid doors. Perfect for areas that do not require sound dampening, like pantries or closets.

5. Door Handing:

Left-Hand ~Hinges are on the left and become visible when door is opened.

Right-Hand ~ Hinges are on the right and become visible when door is opened.

6. Color/Finish:

The door line that I chose had 12 different colors to choose from. It took all my willpower to not choose black right off the bat..lol! Since I was doing all my interior doors, here is where I decided to save money and cut down on the cost. I went with the primed doors and decided to paint all of them myself.

To upgrade your new door’s design, you can choose one of the on-trend paint and stain finish options. This will absolutely save you time and guarantee you a professionally pre-finished door that arrives ready for placement. You should all know by now that I am totally a professional painter…So much practice!

Once you figure out all the details it is easy to order in-store or online. I actually had all my questions answered in store and then ended up doing all of my ordering on-line. So, are you ready to see some doors???

Here’s the first few doors with all the new floors! I’m working one at a time upstairs as I finish the floor in each room. I’m seriously so obsessed with how they turned out.

Don’t look now but, can you tell that is the Primed Paint color? I ended up loving the color so much, it changed the whole look of everything. So bright and airy…now I am on the hunt for the perfect “prime” color. Lol!

I will also be changing out all the hardware soon. Once I save up a little more, I have my eyes on gorgeous new gold handles. In the meantime, I spray painted all my old hardware with Rust-Oleum Gold Metallic Spray Paint. They ended up looking so beautiful!
