Spring Cleaning to Better Sleep

This post is in partnership with Sleep.com , a brand & company I love. All opinions here are my own. Thank you for supporting the brands that help support this blog.

If this year has taught us anything, it is that we need to be completely comfortable in our own spaces, especially our bedrooms. This little lady had been waiting quite sometime now for a bedroom of her own….so let’s Spring Clean to our way into a renovation with Sleep.com.

This bedroom needed a little more than the normal spring cleaning. It went from a guest bedroom to a drop zone. Everyone has one of these spaces, even if you don’t want to admit it! 😉 Anything and everything ended up in this bedroom. Where will all this stuff go?? That will be a problem for future me…LOL!

Saylor had BIG plans for this room and I, of course didn’t want to disappoint. Her main request was for a lofted bed. I knew since this room was so small in size, I needed to find ways to add extra storage in any space I could find. What started out as a simple DIY bed, quickly escalated into a FULL out renovation, to include a floating nook desk space, new flooring, all new trim and baseboards, new paint, tons of storage and a new closet space. All the hard work paid off…it turned out absolutely incredible!

After renovating a space, it is so important to get everything clean. Even the cleanest of workers can’t prevent all the dust, no matter how much we clean as we go. I always vacuum and really wipe down all the floors and even the walls. This space needed a good cleaning after all the building was completed.

Let’s get a fresh start! Sometimes a fresh start doesn’t just mean painting and making over a space. It means we start at the basics, with new pillows and a mattress. How often do you replace your pillows? Any guesses? Sleep.com has a great article all about this and the benefits to switching pillows. Spoiler Alert…I might not be switching mine out soon enough, but I will be now!

The bed was so important in this space in more ways than one. First, it is the focal point of the room and second, it is where she will spend most of her time. My goal for this bed was to be multifunctional. I wanted it to be playful, but also support her sleep each night.

This new lofted bed was also smaller than her previous bed. She was going from a full size bed to XL Twin. That meant it was time for a new mattress, as well. The average mattress normally lasts about 8 years, so we were right on schedule to get her a new one. Click here to find out other signs it might be time to switch out your mattress.

Once the bed was completely built, I wanted it to be super cozy inside. I started with an amazing Mattress from Mattress Firm and got their 12 Park 9″ Memory Foam XL Twin mattress. I’m not gonna lie, it is a thousand times nicer than my own mattress.

When choosing bedding, I was mindful of Saylor’s allergies and made sure to first get a mattress cover and pillow covers. Saylor used to have really bad asthma and her Allergist always said if there is only ONE thing you can do to help her asthma it would be to always have a mattress cover. That tip has completely stuck with me throughout the years.

I heard so many good things about Bedgear, so I went with their Dri-Tec 5.o Mattress Protector along with their Dri-Tec Sheet Set. For pillows, I went with two different kinds. I wanted her bed to look like a daybed when it was all made and styled. I chose to go with two King Pillows from AllerEase and two queen pillows Badgear Gemeni 2.0

I’m not gonna lie, I am super jealous of all this amazing bedding. I keep laying in her bed and I seriously never want to leave. That mattress is something else, along with all that bedding. I think she is going to sleep incredible in her new room!

Also, to help improve her sleep, I tried to add as much storage in her new space as possible. This way even though her room was small it would not feel cluttered. I don’t know about you but, when my space is clean and clear it seems to free-up so much stress and anxiety and really opens up the space for comfort and peace.
