Jeffrey Court Renovation Challenge ~ Week 3

All right guys…the weeks are just flying by and here we are finishing up Week 3 of the Jeffrey Court Renovation! So, I originally said that was going to try to do this renovation all on my own, but this week was all about the professionals. Sometimes no matter how hard you try or how many YouTube videos you watch, you just have to call in the BIG guns and that’s exactly what happened this week.

Here’s where we are at this point. This is the before pic, because in the mix of renovations it’s hard to remember all the work you have gotten done, especially if you still have so far to go!!

This week…the Plumbers came in. I have big hopes for this small Master Bathroom Space, which means I am a little out of my comfort zone in the expertise department. Like I said before, I have never renovated a shower space before. Removing it was quite the task, but once everything was gone came a whole new set of dilemmas.jeffrey Court Challenge Master Shower Prepping

The plumbers rerouted all of my plumbing from one side of the room to the new wall I framed out from my daughters’ bedroom closet. The pipes were located in the center of the room and were free-standing once I took out the wall. They ran the new shower pipes across the side wall through the framing and up the new back wall. I am going to install a rain head shower system, along with a handheld and regular shower head. Just wait till you see the finish I chose, it’s beyond amazing!!

I also had the plumbers install a custom wet-bed for the shower floor. They needed to reposition the drain location and figure out the pitch so that the water would drain properly. This is where I bowed out gracefully…Pitch…1/8″ every foot…might as well have been speaking a foreign language. So, I left that to the real professionals. I did however frame out the shower and a make a custom bench for the space with the help of my amazing friend and contractor, who has become an incredible teacher to me through my journey of becoming a DIY-er.

It was very cool to watch the plumbers make the wet-bed. First, they laid the thin set, then they added concrete and plastic vinyl. Then, they plugged the drain and filled the shower base with water over night to make sure there weren’t any leaks. Just so we are clear, no one ever went over what I should do if there was a leak. Yikes! Don’t worry, no issues. The plumbers finish up in the next day or two.

Up next…I am so ready to get back into my space. It was hard to hand off my project to someone else this week. I am learning I definitely have control issues… lol! I tried to remind myself that I am on a deadline, so I have no extra time for big mistakes. Water mistakes are pretty hard to come back from as well. I am all for giving things a go, but somethings should probably be left up to the professionals. Or at least until you see it done, I feel way more confident if I was to do another Bathroom Remodel. I learned so much from some of the best this week.

Next week, I need to kick things into overdrive!!! I am on a big time crunch to order shower doors. Tile needs to be completely done in the shower frame, before anyone will even come out and measure. My goal for next week is to get the concrete floors and walls down and build a custom niche for the shower oh, and get the tiling done for the shower as well. Wish me luck… I am going to need it! 😉
